FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much is a portrait sitting and do you have packages for portrait photography? No, not as a rule. We believe that with portrait packages, you end up with too much of something you don't want and not enough of something you do want. Besides, how can you know for sure what you'd like when you haven't seen the results? We ask that you pay $65 for a sitting fee, then there is no obligation to spend another cent. Only buy what you truly love!

Where do we have our photograph taken? Our portrait photography studio is located at 38 Meenan street, Garbutt. That's the road to the Townsville Airport. However, most of our portraits are taken on location. These details depend on the sort of feeling you'd like to go for and are discussed over a cuppa. This 'design session' takes place at our Townsville Studio.

Is a portrait with Insight Creative expensive? Surprisingly, our print prices are on par with Pixie Photos. (ref: pixie photo pricelist june 07, 5 x 7 and 8 x 12 prints) Given the amount of time and energy we pour into every shoot (approximately 4 hours with design session, the shoot, post production, viewing, ordering and archival) and the uniqueness of each and every shoot, then no... we are certainly not expensive.

When is the best time of year to have a family portrait? That's one of the great things about living in Townsville, it's always great! However, it can be difficult to get an outdoor shoot late in December as everyone wants christmas portraits and it's often raining. So get in early...

Why should I choose Insight Creative for our portrait shoot? We love what we do. We laugh a lot and we're sure you will enjoy every minute. Also, not all photographers were created equal. There is a small group of photographers in Townsville who's work is of exceptionally high standard and that includes us. We have several university degree qualified photgraphers and post production is performed by a degree qualified graphic artist. Although we have an average age of 30, we have a combined experience in photography of 27 years. We use state of the art cameras and computers and have all our material printed in Sydney. We are also members of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. (AIPP)

I notice that Insight Creative also shoots for magazines and advertising agencies. How can you work in such a commercial environment and still be the best choice for photographing my children? First of all, we loooooove to photographs kids. Between us we have 4 kids of our own. One of our photographers, Megan Marano, has specialized in photographing children for 12 years. All kids love her! When it comes to photographing kids, she is the best in the business.

I've never had a professional photo done before, how does it work? It's easy and fun. It's a 4 step process:

Design session: Visit our Studio for a cuppa and a chat with your photographer so we can offer ideas and help you come up with a concept that will give you exactly want you want.

The Photo shoot: The fun part. We will meet at the time and place discussed at your Design Session.

Viewing / Purchasing session: This takes place in our theatre at the studio. This is also the most exciting part of the process ... seeing the results.

Your Prints: 4 to 6 weeks after the shoot your prints will be ready for collection.

What should we wear? Whatever you feel most comfortable in. Having said that, it's probably best to avoid flashy logos or crazy patterns. These will date very quickly.

Blake Pelling started Insight Creative in 2004. With a bachelor of photography and several years experience both abroad and at home, he's gravitated to what gives him the greatest reward ... photographing real people and helping them celebrate their love for each other..

Honey Atkinson has a personality of pure sunshine! She also has a degree in photography and is a sensitive human being who sees the world as a never ending supply of small pleasures.

Megan Marano is our child portrait specialist. With 3 kids of her own and 12 years experience photographing children, we think she's the best in the business.

Sarah Burgess, though seldom seen, has a hand in almost everything the studio produces. She has a bachelor of Communication Design and does the majority of our image post-production. We love her to bits!

Rosana Kersh is an artistic soul who's creative expression has previously found outlet through fashion and graphic design. Her passion for photography eventually led her to pursue it full time.
